Suharto

I. INTRODUCTION

Suharto, born in 1921, second president of Indonesia (1968-1998), who oversaw the country’s unprecedented economic growth and emergence as a regional power.

Born to a peasant family in Kemusu, a village near the city of Yogyakarta in central Java (then under Dutch control), Suharto had an unsettled childhood. His parents’ marriage broke up before he was two years old, and he was brought up variously by each of his remarried parents and by relatives in other villages and towns around Yogyakarta. Suharto attended local Javanese schools, worked for a short time in a village bank, and joined the Dutch colonial army in 1940.

II. MILITARY CAREER

By 1942 Suharto had been promoted to sergeant. That year, Japan invaded and occupied Indonesia during World War II. Believing that cooperation with the Japanese offered the best hope for eventual Indonesian independence, Suharto joined a Japanese-led militia and received military training. After Japan surrendered and Indonesia declared its independence in August 1945, Suharto joined the newly established Indonesian army and fought in a five-year war against the Dutch, who attempted to regain control of the region after Japan’s withdrawal. The Dutch captured much of Java in 1947 and Yogyakarta the following year. In March 1949 troops under Suharto’s command attacked the Dutch in Yogyakarta and recaptured the city. The Dutch agreed to leave all of Indonesia except Dutch New Guinea (West Irian) later that year.

On June 21, shortly after his 69th birthday, former president Sukarno died, marking the end of an era for Indonesia. Sukarno had served his people, who thought of him as ‘Bapak Negara’ (father of the country) or as ‘Bung Karno’ (Brother Karno), for 20 years as their president and nearly 40 years as a leader of the Indonesian nationalists. He had ushered in a new age for Indonesia by welding together the scattered and divided islands which had been the Netherlands East Indies.

During World War II, Sukarno collaborated with the Japanese, who had promised to allow Indonesia to become independent. When the Dutch returned in 1945, a bitter guerrilla war ensued which finally brought the issue of Indonesia’s independence to the attention of the United Nations. After a resolution by the Security Council, the Dutch freed Sukarno, whom they had imprisoned, and then turned over the administration of Indonesia to Sukarno’s government in 1949.

Chocolate snob

I’m a chocolate snob. What does this mean? It means at least three things. One, I love chocolate. Two, I know the difference between great chocolate, good chocolate and mediocre chocolate (whether there is any “bad” chocolate is, in my mind, an unresolved issue). Three, I prefer the great chocolates. As such, I am always in pursuit of the best chocolate money can buy. My personal tastes run to dark chocolates. The stronger and less sweet the better. The higher percentage of cocoa solids or cocoa liquor the better. Lucky for me, the market is rich with ultra-strong chocolates these days, a situation which just wasn’t true two or three years ago. Sadly, real life keeps me too busy to do many reviews these days, but I do expect someday to put up reviews of some of those ultra- strong products. Darkness works only to a point, of course. Sandra Boynton in her book Chocolate: The Consuming Passion advocates learning to like unsweetened baker’s chocolate. Doing so has the advantage that no one will ask you to share it with them more than once. I’ve tried it, and while I can stand baker’s chocolate I really find that I get a lot more sense of the chocolate flavor when the bitterness is cut with some sugar.

Last Weekend, I was in the market for a new Shearling coat when I came across leatherdeal.com’s website. They offered some decent prices on coats, t-shirt & jackets and also offered free delivery and exchanges. I decided to place my order for a t-shirt and jacket. Both arrived in a little over a month. Upon it’s arrival and when the delivery was brought into my home in detroit city, the box as well as the new jacket and hat smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. This was not just a hint of smoke, everything, including the packaging, and all of it’s contents were infused with heavy cigarette smoke. I had to immediately remove everything to a place where there was more air flow. There it stayed for days until the smell subsided. I have been ordering through the internet as it became available, before then, from catalogs.

Tutorial Mengetik 10 Jari

Salah satu hal yang meng inspirasi saya ingin mengetik 10 jari adalah dari cuplikan sebuah film, di film itu ditampilkan seorang tokoh yg mengetik dengan jarinya tanpa melihat keyboard, jari-jarinya menari-nari diatas keyboard layaknya seorang ahli masak sedang membuat adonan, atau seperti pilot yang sedang mengendalikan pesawat. Ia menikmatinya dengan mengetik sangat cepat sementara matanya hanya tertuju di Layar monitor dan otaknya asik berfikir untuk memecahkan suatu kode rahasia. Dari film tersebut mulailah timbul keinginan dari lubuk hati saya yang paling dalam untuk mulai belajar mengetik 10 jari. Saat itu saya belajar secara otodidak, dengan bantuan beberapa software pendukung untuk belajar mengetik 10 jari.

Dalam blog ini saya hanya ingin berbagi pengalaman menarik saya mengetik 10 jari, pada awalnya memang sulit dan membosankan, tapi
